"Art has broadened my perception of the world since I was able to hold a pencil. As a native Montanan, I find my work often reflects the beautiful landscapes that surround me. I have an innate desire to create and capture beauty. To get lost for hours in a scene of my own creation indulges this lifelong desire. I hope to give the viewer a small piece of my sanctuary, a place to rest, if only for a few moments."
-Lindsay Godfrey
Born and raised in small-town Western Montana, Lindsay credits much of her current style to her upbringing surrounded by mountains and trees.
“As a child, most of our family vacations were spent in the woods at my grandparents’ cabin. It was a time when life slowed down and nature was our sanctuary. My sisters and I would spend hours exploring the woods and creek below the little cabin, as well as swimming in the nearby lakes and rivers. So many of my fondest memories were made there.”
At an early age, she spent countless hours with a sketch pad and whatever drawing tool she could get her hands on.
“I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t impelled to create. From drawings and paintings to little clay sculptures, there was always one or two projects in progress.”
Lindsay was introduced to oil paint for the first time in one of her many high school art classes, and continued her exploration of it into college. After graduating from the University of Montana with a Business degree and a minor in Fine Arts, she took some time to work in banking and marketing, while continuing to paint and create as time allowed.
As a wife and mother, Lindsay placed her craft in the back seat until recent years. She now uses her home studio to explore the beauty of both real and imagined landscapes. Her work often has an element of dramatic sunlight in its many forms.
She still lives in Montana with her husband and three children.
